Terms of Service

The terms under which community society provides the teamlabel data annotation platform to you.

Last updated: September 2, 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the teamlabel data annotation platform (the “Service”), which is operated and provided by community society (“we”, “us”, or “the seller”). By creating an account or using the Service, you confirm that you are contracting with community society and that you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not access or use the Service.

1. Your relationship with us

These Terms form a binding agreement between you (or the organisation you represent) and community society. By continuing to use the Service after these Terms are posted or updated, you agree to be bound by them. If you are using the Service on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have the authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.

2. The Service

teamlabel is a platform for individuals and teams to upload datasets, define labels, annotate text and image data, review work for quality, and export results for AI and machine-learning projects. We may add, change, or remove features and we do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at all times.

3. Eligibility and authority

You must be of legal age to form a binding contract in your jurisdiction (or, if acting for an organisation, have the authority to bind it) to use the Service. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse the Service. You must not, and must not allow others to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful, fraudulent, or harmful purpose.
  • Submit or upload content that infringes the intellectual property or privacy rights of others.
  • Engage in spam, phishing, harassment, or distribution of malware.
  • Interfere with, probe, reverse engineer, or attempt to circumvent the security or technical limits of the Service.
  • Scrape, overload, or otherwise disrupt the Service or its infrastructure.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to another user’s data or to systems you are not authorised to access.

5. Your content and license

You retain ownership of all datasets, labels, annotations, guidelines, and other content you upload to or create within the Service (“Your Content”). You grant community society a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to host, store, process, and transmit Your Content solely as necessary to provide and operate the Service for you. You are responsible for ensuring you have all rights needed to upload and process Your Content through the Service.

6. Intellectual property

The Service, including its software, documentation, design, branding, and underlying technology, is owned by community society and its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms grant you no right, title, or interest in the Service except the limited right to use it in accordance with these Terms and your selected plan.

7. Subscriptions, plans, and payment

Paid plans are offered as annual (and, where shown, monthly) subscriptions in USD. Plan limits — such as the number of projects, members, or dataset items — are defined by your selected plan. When you upgrade, the new allocation applies immediately and any prorated difference is charged; when you downgrade, the new plan takes effect at the next renewal.

Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns. Payment, billing, tax, cancellation, and refund mechanics for your subscription are governed by Paddle’s Buyer Terms, available at paddle.com/legal/checkout-buyer-terms, which are incorporated into these Terms by reference.

8. Cancellation and renewal

You may cancel your subscription at any time. Cancellation stops renewal, and you retain access to your paid plan features until the end of your current billing period. Refunds are handled in accordance with our Refund Policy and Paddle’s refund handling. To manage your billing, visit the Subscription page within your workspace.

9. Service level

The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. Except as required by law, we make no guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, and we do not warrant any particular outcome from its use.

10. Disclaimers

To the fullest extent permitted by law, all implied warranties — including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement — are disclaimed. Annotations, exports, and any AI/ML outputs produced using the Service may be inaccurate and should be reviewed before reliance; they are not a substitute for professional judgement.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event will community society be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or business, arising out of or relating to your use of the Service. Our aggregate liability for any claim is limited to the fees you paid to us for the Service in the six months preceding the event giving rise to the claim. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by our negligence where such exclusion or limitation is not permitted by law.

12. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold community society harmless from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from Your Content, your breach of these Terms, or your misuse of the Service.

13. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you materially breach these Terms, fail to pay amounts due, or pose a security, fraud, or safety risk, or for repeated or serious violations of these Terms. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends; you may export Your Content before access closes, after which we may delete it in accordance with our retention practices and our Privacy Policy.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may revise these Terms from time to time. We will post the updated Terms on this page with a revised “Last updated” date. Material changes will be communicated through the Service or by email where appropriate. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

15. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which community society operates, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. You and we submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of that jurisdiction for any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service, except where prohibited by mandatory consumer-protection law.

16. Assignment

You may not assign or transfer these Terms or your account without our prior written consent. We may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or part of our business.

17. Contact

If you have questions about these Terms, contact community society through the Help & Support page within your workspace.
